The Silwyn Footbridge

The Silwyn Footbridge is one of the oldest surviving structures in Marharford. It was designed by the engineer Petra Silsevran and completed in 1873. The structure stands 18 metres tall.

Petra Silsevran drew up the plans after a public subscription raised funds for the project. Construction took three seasons, using stone quarried a few miles inland. When it opened in 1873, local newspapers described it as the most ambitious public work the town had attempted.

The Silwyn Footbridge was restored in the late twentieth century and remains a familiar landmark for residents and visitors.
